Fix: Farming Simulator 22 Controller/Gamepad not Working on PC

1. Enable Gamepad/Steering Wheels
The first thing you should do is simply enable the gamepad/steering wheels mode from the in-game settings menu. So, that the Farming Simulator 22 game can easily detect the connected controller. To do so:
- Open Steam and launch Farming Simulator 22.
- Go to Options > Under the General Settings menu, you’ll find out Input Controls.
- Now, make sure to Turn ON the Gamepads/Steering Wheels menu.
- Once enabled, click on Apply to save changes.
Note: If it’s already enabled then turn it off, apply changes, and turn it on then apply changes again to refresh the game system.
2. Edit Game.xml file
It’s also recommended to edit and tweak the game.xml file inside the installed Farming Simulator 22 folder on your PC. You can follow the steps below to do so:
- Launch Steam > Click on Library.
- Right-click on Farming Simulator 22 from the left pane > Go to Manage.

- Once done, close the Notepad window, and reboot the PC to change effects immediately.
Note: If the joystick enable value is already set to false then you’ll have to change it to true and set false for the mouse & keyboard (if required).
3. Delete Profile Template
If the above methods didn’t work for you then try deleting the profile template on your PC from the installed Farming Simulator game folder. To do so:

- Launch Steam > Click on Library.
- Right-click on Farming Simulator 22 from the left pane > Go to Manage.
- Click on Browse local files > Now, head over to the opened File Explorer window that’ll redirect you to the installed Farming Simulator 22 directory.
- Now, go back to the Steam folder by clicking on Steam on the address bar > Open the Steam Client folder.
- Open the steamapps folder > Open the common folder > Open the Farming Simulator 22 folder.
- Here you’ll find out the profile Template folder > Just open it.
- Next, select all the inputBindingDefault XML files inside the folder and Delete them. [Recommended to cut these files and paste them on another drive as a backup, if something goes wrong]
- Finally, you can try playing the Farming Simulator 22 game again with the controller to check whether it’s working or not.
Note: If this method didn’t help you then make sure to copy the XML files and paste them back in the profile Template folder again as it is.
4. Add a Non-Steam Game
If in case, you’ve downloaded and installed the Farming Simulator 22 game on your Windows computer directly and you’re playing the game directly too then we’ll recommend you to add it to the Steam client by following the steps below.

- Click on General Controller Settings > Make sure that all three ‘Guide Button Focuses Steam’, ‘PlayStation Configuration Support’, and ‘Xbox Configuration Support’ are enabled.
Note: It’ll show you something like “No Controllers Detected”. If so, follow the steps below further.
- Click on Steam Library > Right-click on Farming Simulator 22 from the left pane.
- Now, go to Properties > Click on Controller from the left pane window.
- Under Override for Farming Simulator 22, select Disable Steam Input from the drop-down list.
- Click on Big Picture Mode from the top right corner of the Steam client.
- Next, go to Library > Click on Farming Simulator 22 > Select Manage Game.
- Click on Controller Options > Select Forced On from the drop-down list.
- Once done, go back to the Big Picture Mode main interface again.
- Click on the power icon from the upper right corner > Select Exit Big Picture.
- Exit Steam and reboot your PC to apply changes.
- Finally, launch Steam again, and try running the Farming Simulator 22 game to check for the issue. Make sure to connect the controller to the PC properly.
