Borderlands 2 is a 2012 first-person shooter video game developed by Gearbox Software and published by 2K Games. The game is highly rated on Steam, and players love the graphics & gameplay very much. However, the Borderlands 2 title is also prone to multiple bugs and errors that players are experiencing, such as the crashing issue at startup on the PC. It’s frustrating.

Now, if you’re also one of the victims of such an issue on your computer quite often or even consistently, then don’t worry because this is a common issue among PC games. This issue can be fixed manually without wasting further for the developers to come up with patch fixes. In most cases, the chances are high that the startup crashing or the game not launching issue is appearing due to some conflicts at your end and not the dev’s fault.

Some affected players do acknowledge that a minor workaround can also come in handy. So, don’t skip any method, even if it’s a basic one. Now, without further ado, let’s jump into it.

1. Check System Requirements

First, you should check if your PC configuration is compatible enough or meets the system requirements of the Borderlands 2 game or not. Sometimes incompatible hardware and software specifications can eventually trigger plenty of issues. Well, the startup crashing issue is one of them. Here we’ve shared both the minimum and recommended system requirements for you. Let’s check it out.

Minimum Requirements:

22. Update Borderlands 2

Even an outdated game patch version can trigger several potential issues on the gaming device that leads to the crashing issue, lags, stutters, and more. It’s recommended to check for the game update periodically and install the latest update whenever available. You can follow the steps below to do the same.

  • OS: Windows XP SP3

  • Processor: 2.4 GHz Dual Core Processor

  • Memory: 2 GB(XP)/ 2 GB(Vista)

  • Hard Disk Space: 13 GB free

  • Video Memory: 256 MB

  • Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 8500 /ATI Radeon HD 2600

  • Select Browse local files > Go to Borderlands 2 installed location.
  • Now, right-click on Borderlands 2.exe > Select Properties.
  • Click on the Compatibility tab > Tickmark Disable fullscreen optimizations to enable it.
  • Once done, click on Apply and then OK to save changes.

3. Run the Game File as an Administrator

It’s also recommended to always run the game executable file as administrator access on the Windows PC so the User Account Control (UAC) can allow all the access properly. Sometimes the system may think you’re trying to run the game without authorizing it. This is a one-time process for each game. Make sure to follow the steps below to do so:

  • Right-click on the Borderlands 2 exe shortcut file on your PC.

  • Now, select Properties > Click on the Compatibility tab.

  • Make sure to click on the Run this program as an administrator checkbox to checkmark it.

  • Click on Apply and select OK to save changes.

  • Now, you can just double-click on the game exe file to launch it.

Once done, you can also do the same steps for your specific game launcher (E.g., Steam Launcher) used to run the game. So, you’re giving the same UAC access to the game launcher too.

4. Download the GeForce Game Ready Driver

Nvidia has recently released an optimized and quite stable GPU driver for the Borderlands 2 title specifically. Yes! the driver has been officially optimized for Borderlands 2 and a couple of other games too. Therefore, it’s highly recommended to manually download and install the GeForce Game Ready Driver on the PC if you’re using an Nvidia graphics card.

5. Download the AMD Adrenalin Edition Driver

Well, AMD graphics card users are also facing the Borderlands 2 startup crashing issue that’s why the company has released a new Adrenalin Edition driver update for the users. • Now, select Video Mode > Scroll down to the ‘Anti-Aliasing’ option.
  • Make sure to select ‘TAA and AMD FX’.
  • Once done, save changes, and restart the game to check for the issue again.
