Verizon’s Fios Quantum Gateway Router is an excellent gateway router that provides you with plenty of access options and excellent WiFi coverage throughout your home or office. This review will cover everything you need to know about the router, from how it stacks up against other top routers to some tips and tricks that can help make sure you get the most out of your gateway router! Fios Quantum gateway router review – let’s know about it.
How does the WiFi perform?
The Fios router performs better than most. During its testing phase, many people noticed about a 10% improvement in download speeds compared to my older router. This might not seem like much, but when you have hundreds of devices connected to your network, anything that can increase performance is great.
Upload speeds were also improved by about 10%. Overall a solid performing router!
How well does it stack up against other routers?
The Fios Quantum Gateway router is Cisco’s latest product. At first glance, it looks pretty standard, but does it really stack up against other routers? When looking at performance specs alone, you’d think that it wouldn’t stack up too well. However, when you get into networking and devices involved, things aren’t so clear-cut.
With many routers offering increased power via external antennas, faster processors and more robust firmware (and companies like Apple being very secretive with their router specs), there are a lot of factors to consider in a router review before settling on one as your gateway router.
That said – are these specs something that is important to you? Or do they not even come into play when deciding what kind of network device you want to spend hundreds of dollars on? These are all questions that you can answer for yourself with a little bit of research… though your answers will likely be different than someone else’s – there is no best answer because everyone values different things in different ways.
How do you access your ISP’s features?
Most internet service providers have a website that allows you to check your email, pay your bill, and log into router settings. This is good because it makes accessing advanced features easy but bad because it’s one more thing you have to do to access those features. Most advanced router features are accessed through a web browser so having a site is less than ideal. For example, when you have to reset your Verizon FIOS Quantum Gateway router, you need to use an online form as opposed to just pressing a button on its interface. If you want full control over how your home network operates, setting up a separate DD-WRT router will be much easier in most cases. The good news is that setting up any type of router takes only minutes after reading our step-by-step guide.
What else can I do with this thing?
The Fios Quantum Gateway router does a lot more than just let you get online. It’s capable of collecting information about connected devices and connecting to external storage drives, which is one of our favorite things about it. This means you can set up a home automation system with it to have lights turn on when your alarm goes off, or move all your important files over to an external drive so you always have them in case something happens to your PC. Basically, there are endless possibilities for how you can customize and automate your network — some of which are only available if you pay extra for advanced features. But once again, that won’t be necessary for most people; anyone who just wants access to their network from multiple computers (and not much else) will probably find everything they need.So go ahead and add it to your cart right now before the company decides that they are being too generous!
Device Setup:
To use these new routers out of box requires nothing other than plugging them into the power source & modem port from the existing gateway that was provided by Verizon FIOS!Just attach existing network cables, turn on the modem and wait for it to boot up. The second you are connected with all lights illuminated on the router, run setup software (google your model #). Again, attached a computer via network cable to router, enter address; and follow prompts to set up device.
That’s it!
Is there anything else I should know?
The Fios Quantum Gateway Router is Verizon’s new device to replace their aging DSL modem/router. It is an all-in-one device that supports both wired and wireless networks, 2 gigabit Ethernet ports, and includes remote management capabilities through Verizon’s cloud service.
If you are currently a FiOS subscriber looking for your own router or a solution to upgrade to a newer system, then it would be worth checking out what features have been added in the latest Fios gateway router.
